This is definitely my favorite drink AND morning meal! I know there are hundreds or thousands of posts out there just like this one, but I guess I'm just here to show the simplicity in my own way. And the best part? It's SWEET ENOUGH because of the apple and carrots that you DONT NEED TO ADD ANY SUGAR! :)
Recipe calls for:
- About 2 cups of fresh/raw baby spinach, (I usually go for one handful of spinach and one handful of kale but, I didn't have any kale on hand today).
- A small handful of baby carrots (I'd say between 7-10)
- 1-2 TBSP of FlaxSeed (Here, I'm using whole Organic Golden Flaxseed by Beveri).
- 1 apple of your choice, (I chose a yummy honey-crisp)
- 1.5-2 CUPS water OR enough to full blender about 1/4 of the way full
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Use a sharp knife to cut apple into basic slices, set aside
- Cut carrots length-wise, set aside
- Add spinach to blender (ALL)
- Add water to blender until it reaches near 1/4 the way full (depending on the ending consistency, you may either want to add more water if the smoothie is too thick, or more spinach if the smoothie is too thin.)
-Pulse until spinach is slightly blended
-Add apple slices, carrots, and flaxseed
-Blend until smooth, or desired consistency
-ENJOY! (At least I hope you do)
Again, I usually like to add an additional handful of KALE to this recipe. It's wonderful for flushing out nasty stuff in our bodies. Kale is able to absorb more than half it's weight in HUMAN TOXINS! Uhh, can we say WEIGHT LOSS?! In addition to THAT it's a SUPER FOOD!
As for the flax seed, ALSO AWESOME. It's such a great source of fiber. You can simply add it to smoothies, cookies, yogurt, cereal and many more foods! Also a quick way to get your daily dose of ALA- Omega-3's.
